Chapter 388.1: Idle Talk – A Study Group Scene

Translated by Gumihou

Zzonkedd gave up due to the childish text, lol

In the morning, I wake up to breakfast made by mother and auntie.

Mother, father, Brother Erik and Brother Oliver, Uncle Toni, Auntie Aiya, Brother Costi and Sister Celia, Teacher Tabasa, Beardy Uncle and the big brothers, we all eat together.

Back in the village, I don’t get to eat much, but here, I get to eat lots and lots.

I’m really happy here because I can get seconds if I want.

After breakfast, it is time to work.

Today, I work at father’s farm.

The tomatoes are big and full.

Father says it is all thanks to Brother Mukouda.

After work is over, it is time for lunch.

Everyone comes together to eat lunch made by mother and auntie.

Lunch is very delicious.

After lunch is study time.

I don’t like to study, but I want to do my best because mother and father told me to do my best.

Because getting to study is not easy.

Father, mother, Uncle Toni and Auntie Aiya are all very thankful to Brother Mukouda.

Father and mother said that Lotte should be thankful to Brother Mukouda too.

Lotte doesn’t really understand, but I like Brother Mukouda because I get to eat lots of delicious food here.

When I am bigger, I want to be Brother Mukouda’s bride.

When that happens, mother and father will be happy too.

Because it is really fun here.

Today is also a fun day.

“I’m done~!”

“You’ve done writing? Show me,”

“Yes, Teacher Tabasa,”

Lotte handed her notebook to Tabasa.

Tabasa quickly read through Lotte’s essay. Her handwriting was rather poor, but she was rahter good at putting her stories together.

“Looks like you’ve written it quite well,”

Today’s writing topic was ‘What did you do today?’

“Alright, please read it out loud for everyone,”

It was the study session encouraged by Mukouda.

Lotte stood up and read her essay out loud.

At the end of the reading, Alban and Teresa both have very complicated expressions on their faces.

The rest of the children and adults exchange looks, unsure what to say.

[6] Some, on the other hand…

“Ahahahaha! So, Lotte wants to be Mukouda-san’s bride?!”

“Marrying up! It’s marrying up!”

Naturally, the first to openly comment on Lotte’s essay were the playful twins.

“Umm, I don’t know what that means but, Brother Mukouda will have lots and lots of delicious things to eat. That is why Lotte thought it would be nice to be a bride,”

“Father, father, what is marrying up?”

Alban’s eye twitched. Clearly, he was unsure how to answer this.

“Does mother know?”

Faced with this challenge, Teresa’s eye also twitched.

“Little Lotte, ‘to marry up’ means to be the wife of a rich man,” [3] Bartel answered, coming to the parents’ rescue.

“Being a rich man’s wife means you can buy whatever you want and eat delicious food every day.”

“That’s right, that’s right. Marrying a rich man means never having to worry about money for the rest of your life.”

Bish! Bash!

The twins were punished for giving out unnecessary information.

“Waow~~ Is that right? Then, then, Lotte will become Brother Mukouda’s bride~!”

Attracted by the idea of delicious food, carefree little Lotte probably thought that becoming Mukouda-san’s bride just meant she would get to eat well forever.

On the other side, Toni and Aiya were whispering to their daughter, Celia.

Celia’s face was bright red.

It was every parent’s wish to see their children live better lives than themselves.

“…what? Does elder sister want to marry up?”

“Hmm, I’d be really grateful to Mukouda-san, but no matter how I look at it, it doesn’t seem to match?”

“Mukouda-san look quite pitiful next to elder sister…”

“That’s what happens when you marry late-”

Bish! Bash!

Everyone around them laughed at the twins’ antics.

That broke the awkward atmosphere.

“Well, it’s quite true that we should all be very grateful to Mukouda-san,” [3] said Bartel.

Everyone nodded. [5]

“As slaves, while we do get a minimum quality of life, it still means a loss of freedom and being used by others…” the usually taciturn Peter said.

Everyone else fell silent.

This was true. As slaves, they would not be able to refuse jobs that most people despised and could be put to work so long as it did not violate the ‘minimum quality of life’ clause. Even so…

“Compared to my Adventuring days, life here is a little like heaven, eh?”

They all nodded at Tabasa’s comment.

“Life’s not bad as an Adventurer, but the income is kind of unstable,” [3] commented Luke.

“My biggest worry now is wondering whether it’s okay for Mukouda-san to let us eat that high-quality meat,” [3] Irvine said with an awkward laugh.

“To people like us, having the opportunity to study letters and numbers… Mukouda-san is like a benevolent god,” [3] said Toni.

“Yes, [5] unexpectedly, even at this age we could still learn letters… I’m truly grateful,” said former poor farmer Alban.

Their wives nodded seriously.

“Mmm, we can’t do much for the master as slaves,” said Bartel. “However, I still have my pride as a dwarf and intend to repay this good life by protecting this house and obeying all of Mukouda’s instructions.”

“Exactly. Which is why I am giving my all to these study lessons,” said Tabasa firmly.

The twins made an unpleasant sound at the back. [5]

This caught Tabasa’s attention. With a glint in her eye, she said, “Looks like you two don’t have enough homework. Very well, I shall give you a special assignment! If you don’t finish your special assignment by the end of today, you can skip tomorrow’s meal!”

Bartel and Peter sighed at the twins’ antics. [5] [5]

Meanwhile, the parents herded their children to one side and quietly said, “Don’t ever grow up to be that kind of people…”

[6] “Don’t worry, father, mother, we will do our best to study,” the children reassured.

[6] “Lotte will do her best too!”

The FBI wouldn’t jump into a wormhole to chase Mukouda because you already have present day history as proof – Ghislane Maxwell. How is there a crime without any criminal suspects even detained? None of the criminals committing the pedo or statutory rape crimes have been accused or detained (bbill clintton, bill ghates, etcetera). It’s a heavily political crime where the principal criminals aren’t charged because they are politically well-connected with the party in power of funding the FBI (House of Representatives).

    [but she was rahter good at] -> {but she was rather good at}

Uh oh, I should have expected this, I should have expected a little girl would start thinking about being a bride in the future. Looks like Mukoda’s future doesn’t look that bleak, but also very dangerous. The FBI might jump into a wormhole just to get to him, lolz.
Thanks for the chapter! Awesome translation! May God bless you!

Ahahaha, I was 100% sure the farmers would want to keep working for mukoda even after their contract expired but I wasn’t sure about the adventurers since they sometimes have dreams like “travel around the world” or “clear a impossible dungeon” or “become the strongest” but looks like these adventurers have a more realistic view of life and will want to keep working for mukoda too
