What If – Companions – The Mirror of Maybe (Part 2)
Then, the old wizard puckered his lips and-
“Gyaahhh!!!!”
I pinwheeled my arms, scooting back so quickly that I would have fallen if not for a pair of strong arms catching me from behind.
“Woah, woah, what’s the hurry, Mukouda-san?” said a cheerful, manly voice. It was Vincent. One of [Iron Will]’s swordsmen.
“H-help me,” I gasped.
“Sure thing,” said the man cheerfully. “You should know that Adventurers are basically mercenaries, right? We’ll do anything for the right payment.” This was said so close to my ear that Icould feel the hot breath against my cheek
“Hiii!!”
“Down boy,” said an authoritative voice.
“Ouch!”
The arms let go of me. I took the opportunity to scuttle away… just barely avoiding Ramon and Franca, I somehow managed to fall sideways and more or less tripped over a delighted-looking Rita.
Before anything untoward happened, someone lifted me up by the back of my shirt with a whoosh.
“Arrghh!”
It was odd how being lifted by the back of my shirt felt oddly familiar, perhaps it was because Fer enjoyed grabbing me like that before throwing me bodily onto that furry back.
“Mukouda-san, please allow me to apologise for my party member’s inappropriate behaviour,” the man scolded them sternly. “Can you not see how uncomfortable you are making Mukouda-san?”
“Sorry,”
“Please accept our apologies,”
“Umu, indeed, it was our fault…”
“Hey, I did nothing wrong-”
Bonk!
Ah, so it was Werner-san who made Vincent release me. I looked gratefully up at Werner-san who, at that moment, looked like the pillar of stability and sanity.
“Don’t worry about them, it’s been a while since we had been suffering some shockingly bad food. I think that’s why they went a little crazy…”
“Oh, if it’s food you want…”
“Oh no, we couldn’t…”
“No, no, we’re friends, aren’t we? I insist,” I said, feeling like I ought to show my gratitude at being rescued.
“No, we can’t-”
“Hey, just accept it!”
“Yeah! Yeah!”
The two more boisterous members of [Iron Will] cried.
“Well, I supposed…”
“Then, allow me…” I said as I happily started setting out large plates of sandwiches, sliced meats and drinks. It was a joy to see everyone eat and drink their fill. Wow, they must have been really hungry to be acting so odd just now, huh?
Soon, everyone was satiated, and I settled down with a hot cup of after-meal coffee, enjoying the pleasant feeling of having seen everyone eat my food. Werner moved to my side, his well-oiled and polished armour making only the faintest creak as he sat down.
“It was great to see you again, Mukouda-san.”
“Yeah, it was great to see you too,”
“Indeed, I still remember our first meeting fondly,” said Werner with a chuckle. “We were actually ready to leave Kiels if we didn’t get a suitable mission out soon. That was why we were happy to be hired. Even when we were sure that the meals may be subpar.”
“Oh?”
“However, it turned out that the meals were one of the greatest boon. Although I’m sure that Vincent and Ramon would declare that meeting the Legendary Great Fenrir was the highlight of the trip, it was… different, for me.”
“Ah, well, food is very important after all, hahaha.”
“Yes, food is important, but so is meeting people. Isn’t a far greater blessing to meet someone we could truly connect with?”
“…eh?”
Somehow, Werner looked a bit too close?
Wait.
What?
“Get me the heck out of-”

“-here!!!”
I was in the stone room again.
I looked around to see my familiars staring accusingly at me.
“What? What the heck are you looking at?” I shouted, feeling the need to defend myself even though I was not entirely sure what was going on.
“You!” Fer snapped.
“What?!” I snapped back equally angrily, although I did skip back a couple of steps.
“How could you!”
“What?” I said in a more normal tone.
“Master, you gave those people food… we had to watch them eat while we’re… here.”
“Oh… oh! Ah…” I patted my stomach. I felt oddly full. When I checked my [Item Box] it turned out that the food I had given out earlier was gone. Wait, had I really fed the [Iron Will] party?
More importantly, were they really the [Iron Will]??!!
I never got that vibe from anyone on that team before, could it really be possible that- but then again there were those women who claimed to be goddesses… were they really goddesses?
There’s also Lotte-chan…
“Gahhh!!! It’s too much! I don’t want to think about it anymore! Um, you know what? Let’s just eat!”
“”Yeah!! Most sensible suggestion ever!”” Dora-chan crowed.
“”Sui wants the drinks~ The yummy drinks~~ and meat~~””
“Meat for me, and lots of it.”
“Master, since it doesn’t look like we’re going anywhere soon, how about a beer? Just a keg…”
“Sure, sure, why not,” I muttered as I set out the food. I brought out a small keg of beer for Grandpa Gon. I found that so long as he doesn’t mix beer and whisky together, he would stay sober longer.

Fortunately, everyone ate well and did not pester me anymore. The weird teleportation to places unknown had also stopped. By the way, I don’t feel sorry at all that it has stopped, okay? Especially the scenarios involving Lotte and the [Iron Will] party, it was all kind of brrrr…
Although I wouldn’t mind meeting Franca or Rita scenario, or even A-agni…
I cast a suspicious glance at the polished stone sitting quietly in place. When I did not find myself teleported into a weird space, I felt… relieved, I guess…
….
Okay, I’ll be honest, I wished they had let me stick around with Agni. She seemed like the fun type. Oi, Mirror of Maybe, send me back to Agni-sama! I want to see Agni-
“You called?”
-sama?
“Eh?”
“Oi, Other Worlder-kun, so you like me, eh?”
“Um…” For some reason, I could not look away from… the pair of melons swaying in front of my eyes. They were a pair of… gorgeous beautifully tanned-
“Like ‘em girls? You can touch ‘em, you know?”
“I, ah, I,”
“Here,” Agni-sama grabbed me by the wrist and brought my hands closer and closer to-
“Ooops, looks like our time is up. Oi, call for me again, yeah?”
“Eh, what?”
There was a dizzying flash and the next thing I knew, I was flat on my back.
The grass felt soft under my back as the clouds moved lazily across the sky.
What…
